Dr. Nabi Hasan is the University Librarian at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU),one of India's leading multi-disciplinary institutions, ranked second largest in Asia and first in India. Prior to this, he was Deputy Librarian in the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He has earlier served as Deputy Librarian and a Regular Post Graduate Faculty at Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur (HP). He has also served at Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), Indian Oil Corporation, DESIDOC (DRDO), etc. at Delhi. He did his Masters in Library and Information Science from Aligarh Muslim University; Ph.D. in Library and Information Science (Bibliometrics) from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; Certificate in ICT Applications in Library from IGNOU, IPR Course from WIPO, UN, Geneva and Norman E. Borlaug Fellowship in "Electronic Library Resources Management" from Cornell University, New York, USA. He has also achieved Six Sigma White Belt Certificate from ABI, Ohio, USA and has also been given certification as "Microsoft Faculty Fellow".
He was the "FIRST BORLAUG FELLOW FROM INDIA" in Library Information Systems at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, USA in 2006 and was trained in "Electronic Library Resources Management" under Mary Ochs, Director, A.R. Mann Library, Cornell University. He was awarded Outstanding as a participant by the Cornell University. Dr. Hasan is also the recipient of the "VICE-CHANCELLOR APPRECIATION AWARD 2003" for Exemplary Work and Conduct and has received "APPRECIATION CERTIFICATE" from the University for Extra-ordinary Works and Services in 2009. He has received "APPRECIATION FROM THE CHAIRMAN, BOARD OF GOVERNORS, IIT DELHI" in 2012. He has also been conferred with the "LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD 2015" for Extraordinary Services and Dedication towards Library Science during National Conference on Emerging Trends in Libraries and Librarianship, July 24-25, 2015, held at Jawaharlal Lal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He is winner of the "MOST UNFORGETTABLE LIBRARY MOMENT AWARD 2015", in a Global online Competition by Accucoms, Netherlands..
He is the permanent member of AMU Court, the highest governing body of the AMU and is also the regular member of Academic Council apart from other important committees and bodies.
Dr. Hasan has an experience of 22 years' of active library services and post graduate teaching. He has published 11 Books/composite Books and has over 112 papers/articles in reputed journals, conferences, composite books, etc. He has written contents/modules for the ePG Pathshala Project of the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India and is on the Editorial Board of many reputed Journals/Serials of Library and Information Science.
He is the active member of almost all the important professional societies working in India including; SLA (USA)-Asian Chapter, ISSI (Belgium), ILA, IASLIC, IATLIS, SIS, DLA, MANLIBNET, ASIALA, AALDI, PLA, MLAI, SRFLIS, RRC, etc.
Dr. Hasan is currently the 2016 Director, Special Libraries Association (SLA-USA), Asian Chapter, Joint Secretary of the Asian Library Association (ASIALA), Executive Committee Member of Delhi Library Association, Member of Online Content Advisory Council SLA-USA, Member, Ministry of Earth Sciences e-journal Consortium, Govt of India, Expert Member, Library Advisory Committee of the Kashmir University, etc. Earlier he has servedas Secretary of Delhi Library Association during 2013-16 (DLA), Council Member of the Indian Library Association 2013-16(ILA), Governing Body Member of Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres 2013-16(IASLIC) and on the Boards of SLA-Asian Chapter, AALDI and ISSI 2015 (Belgium), etc.
An Outstanding Content Writer, Speaker and Organizer of Events; Dr. Hasan has delivered large number of presentations at international and national platforms, most of these as Resource Person/Invited Speaker/Valedictory Addresses/Inaugural Addresses/Special Addresses, Keynote address, etc. Dr. Hasan has also organized large no of Conferences/Seminars/Workshops/Trainings, etc. at National and International level. He has very successfully organized conference of the Asian Library Association at UN Information Center for India and Bhutan, New Delhi in the capacity as "Organizing Secretary" in 2014 and also as "Convener" of ASIALA 2015 at DTU, New Delhi.
He has participated in large number of international and national level conferences/seminars/workshops. Dr. Hasan has also participated in few important International and National level computer based and other training programs in India and abroad.
He was the winner of the "BEST PAPER PRESENTATION AWARD" at the International Conference on Knowledge Management and Resource Sharing (ICKMARS-2012) during February 28-29, 2012 at Muscat, Oman. He has received "CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION" for his presentation at 3rd International Conference of Asian Special Libraries (SLA) at Manila, Philippines. His co-authored presentation delivered at National Conference on Managing of Information Resources in Digital Environment, Sept. 21, 2013, New Delhi has also won the "BEST PRESENTATION AWARD". Dr. Hasan received "APPRECIATION CERTIFICATE FROM THE IEEE" in September 2014 and received the "BEST PAPER PRESENTATION AWARD" at "National Conference on e-Resource Management: Challenges and Issues", Lucknow, India on October 19, 2014..
Dr. Hasan has successfully implemented "3 WORLD BANK AIDED NATP/NAIP/ICAR PROJECTS" on Library Automation, Digitization, Institutional Repositories, Digital Library, Networking, etc. in the capacity as Executing Agency/Person/CCPI/PI. He has significantly contributed in CeRA, KrishiPrabha, eGranth, INDEST, N-LIST, etc. Projects in different capacities.
He has significantly contributed in the implementation of "RFID SYSTEM IN THE IIT DELHI LIBRARY" and also successfully completed the "PH.D. THESES DIGITIZATION PROJECT" at the Institute. He has also enabled the access to the Extended Abstracts of Ph.D. Theses through the OPAC and facilitated DSpace platform and was instrumental in making the submission of soft copy of Ph.D. Thesis mandatory submitted to the Central Library (born digital) as well. He was the Coordinator of the important project, "DIGITALIZATION OF INSTITUTE RECORDS" of IIT Delhi. He has good experience of renovation and furnishing of the library building as evident from his significant contributions in this regard at IIT Delhi especially in creation of the world class facilities for the students and faculty at Ground floor of the Central Library. This wasthe first of its kind initiative in the history of the current Central Library building of IIT Delhi.
Dr. Hasan has also been associated with the "INDEST-AICTE CONSORTIUM" Project and was active in Joint Pilot Project under NME-ICT (N-LIST) of the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India at IIT Delhi. He was instrumental in designing the posters of the INDEST-AICTE Consortium and has served as the "COORDINATOR" OF THE COMPILING AND EDITING TEAM OF THE ANNUAL REPORT OF THE INDEST-AICTE CONSORTIUM" for the years; 2010, 2011 and 2012.
He has successfully IMPLEMENTED THE ISO STANDARDS - ISO 9001/2000-2008 in the University Library, H.P. Agricultural University, Palampur (HP). He was also responsible for making H.P. Agricultural University Library as "ONE OF THE FIRST BEST RATED AUTOMATED LIBRARY" amongst the State Agricultural University libraries (SAUs) and ICAR institutes/labs. He established the Digital Library and Institutional Repository at this institute in 2003. His efforts resulted in winning the library as "BEST LIBRARY OF THE YEAR AWARD 2010" at the World Management Congress, India International Centre, New Delhi. His Biography has been included in many reference sources like Marquis's Who's who in the World 2012 & 2013 and Who's who in Science and Engineering 2016-2017 (12th Edition) published from USA. Dr. Hasan's "NAME AND PHOTOGRAPH HAS ALSO BEEN INCLUDED IN THE IIT DELHI'S GOLDEN JUBILEE LIST OF AUTHORS"
He has also "REVIEWED AS AN EXPERT, A NUMBER OF EXTERNAL PROJECTS AND PROPOSALS AND PREPARED THEIR FEASIBILITY REPORTS" and helped in their implementation. Besides, he has been involved in a number of additional activities like as Library System Administrator, LAN Facilitator, Web Content Manager, University Network Team Executive Member, IIT Delhi Website Committee Member, Member of the Committee on Faculty Affairs, RFID Implementation team member, Electoral Officer/Returning Officer, Anti Ragging Committee Member, Assistant Public Information Officer, First Appellate Authority, Chairman and Expert in various committees, Institute Representative for various examinations, etc. He has served as Program Coordinator, Rapporteur General, Chair, Co-Chair and Member of many committees of National and International level events and as Consultant/Advisor in the World Bank/NAIP Projects, Executive Member in the national level professional societies, etc. He has been involved in a number of other activities of the institutes where he has served/serving and also widely travelled to a number of countries including USA, Germany, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Oman and Nepal for professional assignments, depicting his versatile personality.
As senior most professional of the IIT Delhi Library System, Dr. Hasan was the founder "COORDINATOR" of "BETWEEN THE LINES" (eNewsletter of IIT Delhi) and provided the CAS/SDI SERVICES on regular basis to the highest functionaries. He has served as INCHARGE OF SERIALS/JOURNALS DIVISION & E-RESOURCES MANAGEMENT, Coordinated the DIGITIZATION AND ACCESS MANAGEMENT and was also the OFFICER INCHARGE - STORE & PURCHASE.
After joining the Aligarh Muslim University as its regular University Librarian on April 1, 2016; Dr Hasan has significantly contributed for the system. This include; Creation of River Ganga Repository, Opening of New Digital Resources Centre, Opening of New Oriental Division, Opening of New Library Block, hosting of National level events on Academic Integrity, Plagiarism, Author Workshop, Librarians Day, Annual Library Day, Staff Recharge Program, Week long Workshop on conservation and preservation of manuscripts, independent ICT enabled facilities for girl students, rationalization of purchase procedures of the library, strengthening of collection development and improved facilities for the students and the faculty members, infrastructural development like LED lights, false sealing, Air-conditioning, improvement in facilities for the blinds, improvement in the facilities of cultural hall, release of New Library Brochure, starting of eNewsclipping Services, creation of separate budget head for E-Resources, academic and scholarly motivation of the professional staff, organizing of Exhibitions on all the important occasions, etc.
Currently he is in the process of creating a more spacious and open Museum for the Manuscripts of the Library so that anybody can see the rarities of the MA Library without any formality. His main focus now is on strengthening of library resources, services and products for the users and bringing together of people and services of the system libraries with improved access including remote access.
His current area of interest includes RFID applications, eResources Management, Digital Library and Content Management, Digitization, Data curation and Access Management, Institutional Repositories, eBooks, Social Networking, Crowdsourcing & Cloud Computing applications in Libraries and Scientometric studies.
